Computex 2021: Gigabyte Announcement Recap

June 3, 2021 0 By Lorena Mejia

Gigabyte joined the virtual Computex 2021 platform following the global COVID-19 pandemic. Officials presented a series of products and solutions to expand the “Bring Smart to Life” concept. The company has created a lineup of servers with the latest processors from AMD and Intel.

3rd Gen AMD EPYC CPUs

As one of the earliest server partners to develop and adopt AMD EPYC solutions, Gigabyte will launch a line of servers and motherboards compatible with 3rd Gen AMD EPYC CPUs. Unlocking up to 64 cores and 128 threads with AMD’s 7nm processor, developers and scientists can tackle challenges in HPC and cloud computing. In cloud computing, these servers have low latency while maintaining high performance value.

3rd Gen Intel Xeon CPUs

Similarly, Gigabyte announced 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable server solutions with one or two processors. The new motherboards support PCIe 4.0 for faster I/O throughput. Each socket has 64 lanes with up to 128 lanes in a two-processor configuration. This allows for faster data transmission from CPU to GPU, according to Gigabyte officials.

NVIDIA Technology

Furthermore, more servers have been added to the growing list of NVIDIA-Certified systems. These servers support NVIDIA Ampere architecture-based GPUs and NVIDIA SmartNICs, plus the newly added NVIDIA BlueField-2 DPUs. NVIDIA BlueField-2 DPUs offload critical networking, storage, and security tasks from CPUs. Organizations can transform their IT infrastructure into state-of-the-art data centers that are accelerated, fully programmable and armed with “zero-trust” security features. With this new technology, data breaches and cyberattacks can be prevented, according to officials.

“The validation of our servers by NVIDIA is another example of our commitment to technology partners that improves results for our customers,” said Daniel Hou, VP of Network & Communication Business Unit at Gigabyte. “We selected our top performing systems to be put through a number of tests, and our resulting NVIDIA certification cements GIGABYTE’s reputation as a top tier manufacturer for enterprise products that give customers excellent value.”

Ampere Altra

Finally, Another breakthrough announcement includes the addition of Ampere Altra processors to the company’s server portfolio. This is another platform choice besides x86. Altra is a new chip design delivering performance at lower TCO for cloud service providers, allowing for the same number of jobs with less nodes. Although it’s a new design, a system can be easily adapted to support new demands. For more information about the latest Gigabyte announcements, click here.
