CES 2020 RECAP: Tech You Need To Know About

January 10, 2020 0 By Lorena Mejia

CES 2020 wraps up today and we did the dirty work for you by picking out the best technology that’s actually worth looking into, or at least admiring— so you’re welcome. The event unveiled tons of next generation innovations that will soon begin to redefine industries, create jobs, and solve many of society’s challenges. Or simply make us lazier.

As usual, we watched the event unfold with the latest technologies including 5G, artificial intelligence, toilet paper robots, cool cars, foldable computers, and even a cute therapeutic robot puppy. Lots of revolutionary products were displayed at CES 2020, but we’re going to start off with the highly awaited announcement from AMD.

AMD

It should be noted that many suspected AMD officials were going to unveil something spectacular in 2020 and it turns out everyone was right. Dr. Lisa Su, President and CEO of AMD, showed the world new AMD products for gamers and creators.

“There’s a lot of technology that you have to pack into the laptop form factor and frankly for our standpoint, we wanted to change this,” said Su. “So, in 2020 we will be introducing the best laptop processor ever built.”

Ryzen 4000 Series– World’s first x86 8-core ultrathin laptop processor, Zen 2 architecture, 7nm technology, and power efficiency

To clarify, The processor is said to have 15% higher instructions per clock, 2 times transistor density, and 20% lower system-on-chip (SOC) power all within 8 cores and 16 threads. They’re expected to power laptops from top OEMs featuring the most powerful and most portable mobile computing experiences.

Available to the public during the first quarter of 2020.

Ryzen Threadripper 3990X– 64-core, 128-thread delivers up to 51% faster rendering performance than the 3970X processor

In this case, Threadripper will enable extreme performance on desktop PCs for content creators, financial analysts, and other high-end users.

Available worldwide on Feb. 7, 2020.

Athlon 3000 Series- Offers up to 86% faster graphics and up to 51% better productivity performance.

Without a doubt, real performance and modern features are all within reach for mainstream laptops. From completing everyday tasks with Windows Hello and Cortana to streaming your favorite movies at full-HD.

Available worldwide in early 2020.

Radeon RX 5600 Series- Up to 20% faster performance on average across select AAA games and up to 10% faster performance on average for 1080p gamers

Similarly, Radeon is built for superior performance, scalability and power efficiency to improve the future of gaming. The RX 5600 series provides up to 2.1 times higher gaming performance-per-watt than the RX 590 graphics card.

Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics cards will be available Jan. 21, 2020. Radeon RX 5600, RX 5600M, RX 5700M will be available in OEM systems during the first quarter of 2020.

Intel

Just like AMD, Intel targeted the mobile computing industry at CES 2020 after announcing their new products, partnerships, and platform innovations. Their latest announcements are set to transform the way people focus, create, and engage.

“We see the PC as an intelligent platform that helps enable people’s greatest contributions,” said Gregory M. Bryant, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Client Computing Group. “Our mission is to advance the PC experience across the entire industry.”

“Tiger Lake” Processors- New Xe architecture, 4x the throughput of USB 3 with the new integrated Thunderbolt 4, and double-digit performance with the new 10nm CPU core architecture.

The processors will deliver massive AI performance improvements and better media and display capabilities for thin and light laptops. Intel also announced its first U-series motherboard designed for Tiger Lake, calling it the smallest motherboard of its kind ever designed. Its small size is expected to allow smaller parts powered by the new processor.

Available in 2020.

NUC 9 Extreme- First “Next Unit of Computing” kit that’s compatible with desktop-sized graphics cards thanks to a PCIe x16 slot and it’s equipped with Core i9-9980HK processor. The 500- watt power supply supports 3 internal drives and up to 64 GB of memory in 2 DIMMs. It’s tiny! This rig measures 9.37 in. x 8.5 in. x 3.78 in.

In other words, it’s the latest Next Unit of Computing kit that promises the best performance options that a mini-PC has ever offered to date. However, you will need to choose your own memory, storage, and operating system.

Release date to be determined.

NUC 9 Pro- Resembles the NUC 9 Extreme, but can handle Xeon E-2286M or Core i7 9850H processors. It’s also tiny! It measures 9.37 in. x 8.5 in. x 3.77 in.

On the other hand, this is Intel’s first Next Unit of Computing workstation that’s so small it can probably fit in your pocket (we’re kidding, but you get the point.) Nevertheless, you will need to choose your own memory, storage, operating system, and desired PCIe peripherals.

Release date to be determined.

Nvidia

Although Nvidia didn’t present this year, they heard their customers’ calls and gave them what they wanted. After countless requests, Nvidia unveiled a frame rate feature that will change how gamers play, as well as groundbreaking display technology.

“As we begin a new year, we’re demonstrating best-in-class performance, features and tech at CES 2020, and there’s plenty more to come,” said Nvidia officials. “Expect the year to be filled with exciting game integrations and new technologies that make your games and experiences better day in, day out.”

GeForce- Saves power, boosts laptop battery life, and keeps your framerate below a specified limit.

Not to mention, the newest download can reduce latency with certain monitor configurations. Also, the Variable Rate Supersampling (VRSS) can boost image quality and reduce aliasing, reduce shimmering and crawling, and boost detail for the VR experience.

Available now.
